«Developing Aging Containers for the Winemaking Sector Using Ancient Greek Techniques Combined with Modern Technology;».

To address challenges in wine storage and aging, such as the maintenance and replacement costs of wooden barrels and the variability in quality and chemical composition from barrel to barrel, there arose a need for a new method of wine storage and aging. As part of an innovative project to develop aging containers for the winemaking sector, a unique collaboration was formed between Greek universities, research institutions, and local businesses. This project combines ancient Greek techniques with modern technologies to create a unique wine storage and aging product. The goal of this collaboration is to strengthen the position of Greek winemaking in the global market by promoting the quality and authenticity of Greek wines.

Our role in this project included establishing and nurturing partnerships among all stakeholders, facilitating knowledge and expertise sharing. We also undertook the development of the financial and technical framework and projected expenses for the proposal, ensuring the project’s viability. Finally, we supported the application process and monitored its progress through to project completion.

This initiative aims to introduce an innovation that significantly reduces winemakers’ production costs, offering consumers a high-quality, distinctive product. Beyond enhancing the international reputation of Greek products among leading winemaking nations (such as France, Spain, Italy, etc.), this project also seeks to preserve and showcase our cultural heritage in the winemaking sector.
